In a match between Australia and Pakistan back in Oct’1956, on the first day of the match, both Australia and Pakistan teams played very cautiously and only able to manage 95 runs in the whole day of test cricket. In around 5 and half hours of play during the day 1, first Australia got out on 80 runs in 53.1 overs, scoring at the pace of 1.50 runs per over. And then Pakistan also played too cautiously for their 15 without loss for the rest of the day’s play.

Outstanding bowling performance by Pakistan on day one

A very interesting fact of this match is in the Australian first innings there were only two bowlers which was used by Pakistan. Fazal Mahmood and Khan Mohammed bowled 27 and 26.1 overs respectively. Fazal Mahmood took 6 wickets for 34 runs and Khan Mohammed took 4 wickets for 43 runs. Fazal Mahmood took another 7 wickets in the second innings of Australia. It was a match winning 13 wickets haul and ultimately Pakistan won this match by 9 wickets.

This is the only instance of a Test match where total runs scored is less than 100 runs in a complete day of play.
